The Best Parts of Psych Season Two

The Best Parts of Psych Season Two

I recently finished watching the second season of Psych, and I must say it has a lot of funny moments and a few sweet ones. Just like in my post about season one, I’m going to start with my favorite funny moments from this season. Many of these moments include lines that I quote frequently.

1. The scene at Henry’s dinner table in “American Duos.”

There are so many things to laugh at in this scene. From Nigel’s “robe code violation” to Gus smacking Shawn’s hand when he tries to take one of his corn cobs, the entire scene is priceless and makes me laugh every time I watch it.

2. Gus suggesting that Jurassic Park might be real.

When Shawn claims a John Doe was killed by a tyrannosaurus rex, most of his coworkers think he’s crazy. They change their tune, however, when the victim turns out to be a paleontologist. At that point, Gus makes a rather outlandish suggestion, and as usual, Shawn has a witty comeback. As a fan of Jurassic Park, I find it quite amusing.

3. Gus sympathizing with Henry’s plight.

Before Gus goes to the spa, he tells Shawn that he has a knot under his shoulder blade that he calls “Little Shawn,” named after the one who causes most of his stress. Later in the episode, Shawn figures out the key to solving a case while Henry is trying to teach him a life lesson. As Shawn runs away, Henry massages his back, and Gus asks him about it. Gus’s expression at the end of this exchange is hilarious.

4. Shawn’s comments about his dad’s lucky race track shirts.

Throughout the entire episode, Shawn gives Henry a hard time about the colorful shirts he wears to the race track. In the end, Henry gets his revenge by making Shawn wear one of the shirts himself in exchange for helping him with the case. The insults add a lot to an episode that was already quite funny.

5. Tancana singing the Camp Tikihama song.

When Shawn brings an escaped convict to his dad’s house, he tells Henry that the convict, Tancana, is an old camp counselor from Camp Tiki..mama…jama. Gus corrects him and says that the camp was called Tikihama. After Henry confirms his suspicions that Tancana was not actually a camp counselor, he has some fun by putting the convict on the spot and demanding he sing a camp song. The result makes me laugh out loud no matter how many times I watch it.

6. Shawn referencing Bea Arthur.

Shawn and Gus frequently make pop culture references. A lot of these references go over my head, so I particularly enjoy when I, like Captain America, “understood that reference.” As someone who has watched quite a few episodes of Golden Girls, I am familiar with Bea Arthur and always find this exchange entertaining.

7. The bouncer mixing up Black and Tan.

As a gift for Gus’s birthday, Shawn gets them into a party that is meant to be for models. He does this by calling ahead of time and claiming that they are a retired modeling team known as Black and Tan. When he gives those names to the man at the door, the man calls Gus “Black” and Shawn “Tan.” To which Shawn responds with the following:

8. Gus refusing to “break the plane of the mummy room.”

In the final episode of season 2, a museum requests Shawn’s help in finding a seemingly stolen mummy. Shawn convinces Gus to go to the museum for the case but painstakingly avoids telling him what the case is about. When Shawn walks into the room where the mummy was on display, Gus refuses to enter because he believes that he will be cursed if he does. I find the entire scene quite amusing.

So, those are my favorite funny parts from the second season, but as usual, there are a few touching moments that I love as well. In season 2, there are three sweet moments that always make me smile. First, I love when Lassiter tries to cover for Juliet after a prisoner escapes on her watch. It shows that Lassiter really does care about his partner, even if he doesn’t always show it.

Second, I like how frantic Shawn gets when Gus is in danger at the end of “There’s Something about Mirror.” He even asks for a gun. I enjoy seeing how much Shawn cares about his best friend.

My final and favorite sweet moment from season 2 is when the mayor asks the (interim) chief to accept the position permanently after the man he planned to ask is in the paper due to a scandalous affair. When the chief looks at the article, she notices that the photo is by Bruton Gaster, which is the way the museum misspelled Gus’s name. The chief and Shawn then share a look that I believe means that she knows that Shawn took the photo that saved her job. Even if the chief doesn’t realize it, though, I still find it quite touching that Shawn went out of his way to make sure Karen Vick remained the chief of police for Santa Barbara.

Those are my favorite moments from the second season of Psych. What are yours? Let me know in the comments. If you enjoyed this post, please subscribe to see more like it.
