Since yesterday was Leap Day, I started thinking about the movie Leap Year, one of my favorite romantic comedies. Then, I started thinking about some of the other romantic movies I enjoy and decided to make them the subject of this week’s post. My favorite romantic movies include:
- Leap Year – A woman goes to Ireland to propose to her boyfriend on Leap Day only to fall in love with the man helping her get across the country instead. This movie is both sweet and humorous.
- Pride and Prejudice (2005) – A great version of Jane Austen’s classic story. Though I don’t think it’s considered a comedy, it contains a good amount of humor as well.
- While You Were Sleeping – A misunderstanding leads a family to believe that the main character, Lucy, is their comatose son’s fiance. Through many amusing situations, Lucy ends up falling in love with their other son, Jack.
- Letters to Juliet – Sophie and her fiance take a pre-wedding Honeymoon to Verona. While there, Sophie helps an older woman reconnect with her first love and ends up falling for the woman’s grandson.
- A Walk to Remember – Landon, a high school troublemaker, falls in love with the local pastor’s daughter and changes his ways. I always make sure to have tissues on hand when I watch this one because it is a tearjerker!
- Ice Castles (2001) – After Lexi loses her sight in a figure skating accident, her boyfriend, Nick, helps her find the courage to skate again. This movie is inspiring and sweet, but definitely not a comedy.
- The Cutting Edge – Sparks fly when a classically-trained figure skater must partner with a hockey player if she wants a chance to skate in the pairs competition at the Olympics. There are several movies in this franchise, but this is the first and, in my opinion, the best.
- My Big, Fat, Greek Wedding – Tula falls in love with a man who is, to her family’s horror, not Greek. This movie is absolutely hilarious!
- The Proposal – A publishing executive convinces her assistant, Andrew, to pretend to be her fiance so that she will not be deported. To keep up their charade, the two must visit Andrew’s family, where they end up falling in love for real. There are a couple of risque scenes in this movie, but it is still a great romantic comedy.
- Hitch – Alex “Hitch” Hitchens’s job is to help men find meaningful, long-term relationships. Over the course of the movie, he helps a kind-hearted guy woo the woman of his dreams and falls in love himself. There is a lot of humor in this movie, too.
So, those are my favorite romantic movies. Tell me yours in the comments. If you enjoyed this post, please subscribe to see more like it.
You prefer the 2005 Pride and Prejudice to the 1995 one ?
While you were sleeping has also been a favorite of mine too.
There’s another one i loved tht I can’t remember the title . First one had Audrey Hepburn Second one had Harrison Ford. I always wished they were in the same one. 😊
I confess I’ve never actually seen the 1995 one, but I have read the book if that counts.
Oh my gosh, hadn’t thought of some of these in a looooong time!! The Cutting Edge… my sister and I watched it so many times, that I lost count! Now I wanna watch it!!
I hadn’t thought about it in a while either until I wrote this post, so I know how your feel!
