It’s been a while since I did a post exclusively about my kitties, so today, I’d like to give you an update and share some pictures with you. Amy and Ivy, the female kittens we got last June, are getting close to being fully grown. Their heads are still small, and their bodies are not quite as thick as those of our other cats. If you saw them in our window, though, you would definitely think they were adults.
Amy has become such a cuddler. When my husband and I are on the couch, she likes to come sit between us, so she can nestle up against us and get pet. She has also found her voice and is not afraid to use it. I hear her high-pitched meow any time she wants to be pet, to be let into a room, or to be fed. Amy has a very sweet nature. She never intentionally scratches us or bites, though she occasionally gets us on accident.
Ivy’s sweet too, but she’s a lot more feisty. If Ivy is in the mood to be pet, she will trot over to me from anywhere in the house and nuzzle me. She loves spending time with us, to the point that she sits by the door and meows repeatedly any time one of us is in a room without her. If I pick up Ivy when she doesn’t want to be picked up, she’ll meow and twist to let me know she wants down.
Speaking of our male cats, Jake, Luke, and Taiyo are all doing great. Jake still enjoys his perch on my husband’s shoulder. Luke frequently flops down on the floor to be pet, and Taiyo sits in my lap every chance he gets. Jake and Luke are over two years old now, and they have both settled down quite a bit. As a one-year-old cat, Taiyo is a bit more active than the other two boys, but the two girls surpass him by a lot.
Earlier this week, Amy and Ivy were chasing each other around the house. At one point, Ivy was chasing Amy but had gotten a bit behind. Taking advantage of her lead, Amy jumped onto the cat tower. She waited for Ivy to pass by, then pounced on her sister from above.
The two girls play together a lot, but when they’re tired, they are both more likely to cuddle with one of the boys than each other. Amy seems to prefer cuddling with Jake, while Ivy likes cuddling with Taiyo and being groomed by Luke. All five of them get along pretty well most of the time, though we do occasionally break up fights when their usual tussling becomes too serious.
A couple nights ago, my husband and I were both on the couch reading. Over time, Taiyo ended up in my lap, Amy came and lay between us, Jake nestled onto my husband’s legs, and Luke and Ivy settled onto the back of the couch. We had all five cats on a single piece of furniture with us. It was truly precious. I didn’t take a picture because doing so would have required getting up and ruining the moment, but it’s something I won’t soon forget.
Although we never intended to have five cats, I am thankful for all five of my kitties. They brighten my days and make me feel special because they have chosen to love me, even if they don’t show it as exuberantly as a dog would. I am very blessed to be a cat mom, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
